We have, along with the rest of the world, been carefully evaluating the ever-changing COVID-19 situation. You can get the latest information and updates in regards to coronavirus and hydroxychoroquine at https://www.lupus.org/resources/coronavirus-and-lupus
The health and safety of the lupus community is our top priority, and we believe that we must do our part to minimize the risk to people with lupus, our families and communities. Therefore, the Lupus Foundation of America has made the decision to postpone the Tampa walk scheduled for Sunday, May 3rd at Al Lopez Park. This is consistent with new CDC guidance, which recommends cancelling or postponing events of 50 people or more, and for organizations that serve people who are at higher risk of serious COVID-19 illness to cancel events for 10 people or more.
We are working with the City of Tampa to finalize a new date in order for us to celebrate as a lupus community. We are formalizing plans, and thousands of details so that we can announce a new date as soon as possible. We will have more information in the coming weeks and we will be sure to keep you updated.
The power of our lupus community is strong! Your Tampa Walk page will remain open and you can still play your critical role in helping us end lupus. It is our hope that you will continue to fundraise and spread awareness of lupus in your community by sharing your story along with your fundraising page via email and social media.
We also encourage you to visit our website for the latest information on what people with lupus need to know about coronavirus. We will be regularly updating our website as the situation evolves.
Please reach out anytime. As always, I appreciate your support and dedication to the Lupus
