Hi Family and Friends,
I'm writing to you all because on Sept. 28th I am participating in Lupus Foundation of America's "Walk to End Lupus Now" here in Portland. As all of you know I have been fighting this disease for many years and in 2012 I spoke up about the disease for the first time becoming an advocate for the Foundaton. The biggest thing I realized once I opened up about my disease was how freeing it felt. All the years I kept it quiet and struggled alone with my symptoms I didn't understand how lonely it really was until I spoke up about Lupus. The support I received from you; my family and friends, my teammates, my coaches and even strangers showed me how important is is to have that support system. There is no way I would have played soccer for 3 more years if i didn't have your loving support, so thank you.
Life now is very differenet since I retired. When I was playing I was committed and driven to stay healthy so that I could play the sport that I loved. I never thought my commitment to find a cure and stay healthy could be anymore until i had Zoe and Jaden. It is more important than ever to take care of myself so that I can run around, pick them up, crawl on the floor and never let them feel like mommy can't do anything and everything. I wish for the day a doctor will tell me they have found a cure but there is a lot to do to get to that point. One of them is to continue to spread awareness and talk about the disease. That's why i am walking and I would love for anyone that is free on Saturday morning to walk with me. Yes, donations are always wanted but for me personally it's more about having my support team around me and spreading awareness. If you can join my team, "Team Boxxy" on Saturday Sept 28th. Ceremony begins at 8:45am and walk at 9:00am at Oaks Amusement Park.
