My best friend has lupus. She was diagnosed a couple years ago, but probably had it for many more years. It's just such a crappy, sneaky disease various doctors weren't able to connect the dots. Fatigue? Of course you are tired. You have 4 young boys. Forgetfulness? Again... you are dealing with 4 boys. The list goes on.
Over the past 15 years we have shared raising our boys, holidays, birthdays, sports teams, graduations, and even a wedding! We have shared our hopes and dreams for the future. Oddly enough, lupus didn't factor into that. *sigh* Lupus, however, had other plans. Lupus sucks, but it will not win. I will do anything I can to stop it from winning. Since I am not a medical professional, the best I can do now is be there for her and walk with her, both figuratively and literally for this walk.
If you can, please make a donation. What’s more, if your employer offers a Matching Gift Program to employees, you may be able to double your contribution with just a little bit of paperwork. Trust me, it’s worth the effort! Every single dollar counts.
Did you know?
- Lupus is a mysterious and misunderstood autoimmune disease. It strikes without warning, affects each person differently, and has no known causes or cure.
- Lupus symptoms can be severe and highly unpredictable and can damage any organ or tissue, from the skin or joints to the heart or kidneys.
- While lupus can strike anyone at any time, 90% of people living with lupus are women. Women of color are at especially high risk.
- Only one drug has ever been developed and approved by the US Food and Drug Administration specifically to treat the disease.
Together, we can solve the cruel mystery of lupus. Thank you for your generosity!
