Why I walk:
Since I was a little girl, my mother has struggled with Lupus. Her days are often unpredictable or calculated at best, as this illness creates obstacles for sometimes, every day activity. To watch her ups and downs over the years has been difficult yet enlightening. As a child I don't think I fully understood the extent of what she experiences on a day to day basis; the pain, fatigue, and countless other symptoms that "may or may not be the Lupus." What it must be like to wonder if you are having a Lupus flare or if you are simply fighting off a cold, to question if you can make plans in 3 weeks because you simply don't know how you will feel, to have to calculate out your day to ensure you have the energy to complete everything you would like to. Worst of all, I cannot imagine, though I have witnessed the frustration that is generated when plans fall through, when meds don't work, when doctors don't listen, when insurance companies dont care. To have a life, where people do not treat you like you are capable even on your best days, where my mother can embrace the times she feels good without questioning when she will feel bad are reasons why I walk. I walk so that one day, my mother and others might experience a life without the battle; without the worry. My mother is strong and over the years I have seen her strength increase. There have certainly been improvements in treatments, knowledge, and awareness and I see that through my mother's battle. However, Lupus impacts so many individuals of all races, genders, and ages. I have heard my mother talk about the lack of support from the celebraties who could advocate, the lack of awareness, and the lack of education that is currently and historically present. So I walk as an advocate, I walk to find a cure!
I’m Walking to End Lupus. Join Me?
Imagine a day when doctors can say, “There is a cure for lupus.” Until that day though, there is work to be done. That’s why I’m taking action in the fight against lupus. Join me as I participate in Lupus Foundation of America’s Walk to End Lupus Now® Virtual Walk to raise critical funds for the estimated 1.5 million people living with lupus in the United States.
Will you make a donation to help me reach my personal fundraising goal and support the Foundation's efforts to improve the quality of life for all people affected by lupus? A generous contribution of $25 or $55 can make a definite impact. What’s more, if your employer offers a Matching Gift Program to employees, you may be able to double your contribution with just a little bit of paperwork. Trust me, it’s worth the effort! Every single dollar counts.

- Lupus symptoms can be severe and highly unpredictable and can damage any organ or tissue, from the skin or joints to the heart or kidneys.
- While lupus can strike anyone at any time, 90% of people living with lupus are women. Women of color are at especially high risk.
