On Saturday, October 19, 2019 my family is participating in our 2nd Walk to End Lupus Now walk in Boston. Not many of you know this, but our daughter Jorja was just 11 years old when she was diagnosed with multiple autoimmune diseases including Lupus.
The diagnosis was a shock to all of us, but after a year of mysterious ailments, visiting specialists, and seeing Jorja cry in pain day and night, we finally knew what was wrong with her. Now 13, Jorja still struggles with this cruel and unusual disease that has no cure.
Lupus affects her physically and emotionally in some capacity -- every single day. Just last year, she missed 21 days of school with countless other dismissals. There are days where she just can't get out of bed because her joints are so flared up that she can't move. She had to retire from lacrosse as she can't keep up with the physical rigors that come with the sport. She has to say no to her friends to play after school or have sleepovers, because she doesn't have the strength to enjoy her activities.
I could go on and on how badly this disease affects Jorja and it's impact on our family. But instead of negative side of this disease, I want to make Jorja's story public and ask my family and friends to donate to the Lupus Foundation in that one day there will finally be a cure.
Did you know?
* Lupus is a mysterious and misunderstood autoimmune disease. It strikes without warning, affects each person differently, and has no known causes or cure.
* Lupus symptoms can be severe and highly unpredictable and can damage any organ or tissue, from the skin or joints to the heart or kidneys.
* While lupus can strike anyone at any time, 90% of people living with lupus are women.
* Only one drug has ever been developed and approved by the US Food and Drug Administration specifically to treat the disease.
Will you make a donation to help us reach our personal fundraising goal and support the Foundation's efforts to improve the quality of life for all people affected by lupus? A generous contribution of $10, $25, $50, $100 or more can make a definite impact. For us, it’s worth the effort! Every single dollar counts.
Together, we can solve the cruel mystery of lupus. Thank you for your generosity!
