I’m Walking to End Lupus. Join Me?
My team will again be walking in the Walk to End Lupus Walk Now walk in Tampa Florida. The original date of the walk was set for May 3rd, but is now postponed to later in the year. Means we have more time to work on spreading awareness and raising funds for a cure. It's been 11yrs since I was diagnosed with this silent disease after years of searching for reasons for the pain. Was excited to find out what the issue was and give it a name, but hard to swallow that there is so little known about Lupus.....and even less medications out there to help ease the pain.....and, again, harder to learn there is no cure. Thank God for The Lupus Foundation of America and all their time and energy invested in searching for a cure!!! This walk helps raise funds to support this search.
When I was diagnosed with Lupus I thought I was alone. Had never met anyone with Lupus or even heard of the disease myself. So, I kept it to myself....didn't even tell my kids for a very long time. My husband and my parents knew...that was it. After research, I heard about the walk in Tampa. Signed up and was shocked...and amazed to see so many who also struggle with this "silent disease" called Lupus. So many....and still no cure. Oh, I learned to shout it to the rooftops!!!! Since then, I wear a lot of Lupus t-shirts and am shocked to have people come up to say "I have lupus"....or they know someone with it. Means we need to continue to find a cure...to search harder so future generations only hear the word Lupus when they are looking in old medical books and the information is followed by the words "found a cure". I know I set big goals....but, I'm determined.
When I started this journey I, like I said, felt all alone. I didn't want to talk about it to anyone, not even my family. Since then we discuss it often. We talk about the ups and downs, the good and bad days, spoons and the lack of them and my support team has grown to numbers beyond my imagination. I am grateful to have so many in my corner who, even without understanding the fine details, have been there for me since finding out. I know I always have someone I can call whenever I need them. I'm one of the lucky ones.
Please help me reach my goal. If you are here and want to walk with my team....sign up. Raise awareness and funds to find a cure.
Thank you, in advance, for the support and understanding!
Imagine a day when doctors can say, “There is a cure for lupus.” Until that day though, there is work to be done. That’s why I’m taking action in the fight against lupus. Join me as I participate in Lupus Foundation of America’s Walk to End Lupus Now™ in [city] to raise critical funds for the estimated 1.5 million people living with lupus in the United States.
Will you make a donation to help me reach my personal fundraising goal and support the Foundation's efforts to improve the quality of life for all people affected by lupus? A generous contribution of $25 or $55 can make a definite impact. What’s more, if your employer offers a Matching Gift Program to employees, you may be able to double your contribution with just a little bit of paperwork. Trust me, it’s worth the effort! Every single dollar counts.
Did you know?
- Lupus is a mysterious and misunderstood autoimmune disease. It strikes without warning, affects each person differently, and has no known causes or cure.
- Lupus symptoms can be severe and highly unpredictable and can damage any organ or tissue, from the skin or joints to the heart or kidneys.
- While lupus can strike anyone at any time, 90% of people living with lupus are women. Women of color are at especially high risk.
- Only one drug has ever been developed and approved by the US Food and Drug Administration specifically to treat the disease.
Together, we can solve the cruel mystery of lupus. Thank you for your generosity!
