Lupus has been a part of Lara's and my life as long as we've known each other. And let me just say, that's a long time now. I will never stop being impressed with her resilience and ability to build a great life and family despite being in pain or worse every single day. And when Lupus came at my daughter, she handled it with that same grace and courage.
It took years for Lara to be diagnosed, and even then the treatments available were pretty much crap --- steroids and chemotherapy. Over the last few years, biologics like Saphnelo have made a dent. Recent trials with stem cells and especially CAR-T cell therapy have hinted that we may be inching towards an actual cure.
Research works! But it's expensive and slow --- so once again family and friends will be walking to raise funds to help push those advancements over the finish line. This year it's happening in real life, on September 21st at Lake Union Park.
If you're able to do so, I'd sure appreciate a small donation. I can confidently say that your generosity won't just disappear into some amorphous academic machine --- we're close. Thank you!
