Welcome to our fundraising team page.
We walk because lupus is a leading cause of death among young women. It is difficult to diagnose and even more challenging to treat.
Just 20 years ago, the life expectancy for people living with lupus was about 3 years after diagnosis. Today, they have about the same life expectancy as anyone else. This is due to donations like these that will hopefully bring about a cure and greatly improve the quality of life of those living with such a complex and unknown disease. While great strides have been made, current treatments suppress the immune system and come with a host of side effects such as increased risks of cancer and infection.
Please consider walking with us, making a tax deductible donation, or both!
You’ll be supporting the Foundation's efforts to improve the quality of life for all people affected by lupus. You can also support by making a secure contribution on our walk page. Every single dollar counts!
What is lupus?
Lupus is a mysterious and misunderstood autoimmune disease. It strikes without warning, affects each person differently, and has no known causes or cure.
Some common symptoms include: a "butterfly" shaped rash across the face, stiff or swollen joints, chest pains, severe weight loss or weight gain, chronic fatigue, depression, anxiety, and unexplained fevers.
While lupus can be disabling and potentially fatal, in many cases its health effects can be managed through aggressive medical treatment and lifestyle changes.
1 in 4 people living with lupus are temporarily or permanently disabled by the disease.
The majority of individuals with lupus cannot work full-time due to the impacts of the disease.
Lupus symptoms can be severe and highly unpredictable and can damage any organ or tissue, from the skin or joints to the heart or kidneys.
While lupus can strike anyone at any time, 90% of people living with lupus are women. Women of color are at especially high risk.
Together, we can solve the cruel mystery of lupus. Join our team today and support our lifesaving efforts!
