Dear friends and family,
You may or may not heard what I'm signed up to do, Run the Rock 'n' Roll Arizona 5k on January 18th, 2020 with the Lupus Foundation of America's Team Make Your Mark program. As you can imagine this is a big deal for me. Over the next several months I will be challenging my body in ways I never thought possible. This past few months have been very hard for me , I've been going through one of the most difficult flares for me but I know I can do this and I want to make it happen. I am participating not only to challenge myself , to celebrate what I am finally able to do, but to raise critical funds to improve the quality of life for all people affected by lupus through programs of research, education, support and advocacy.
Deciding to share my story about Lupus, as many of you do not know about my condition, is very challenging for me but I have decided it is time and I want to do it to help raise awareness and to help other people living with lupus.
I was diagnosed with lupus in 2008, I was only 21 at the time and it was very difficult for me to accept that I was sick. I had always been a healthy person, always active and enjoyed playing soccer but after my diagnosis my life took a radical turn. I went from being a healthy young woman to taking up to 6 different medications per day. I have had several flares since then and have been hospitalized for several days but none of those flares have been as difficult as the one I'm going through now but I'm trying to keep a positive attitude and I know I will get better. I am very grateful for my wonderful family, friends and coworkers for always being there for me and for their love and support.
I now know I am ready to take this challenge . In addition to running 3.1 miles, I have committed to raise $500 for the Lupus Foundation of America. I am running for a cure, for myself and for the 1.5 million Americans who suffer with this disease. I am running so that others do not have to endure what I have been through.
The Lupus Foundation of America is the leading national force devoted to solving the mystery of lupus, one of the world's cruelest, most devastating disease. Like me, they envision a life free of lupus. That is why I am coming to you now, to ask for your support. Please help me reach my goal by making a tax-deductible donation to support my fund raising efforts.
Your gift will make an impact and will help me to get closer to my personal goal of finishing this race and my fundraising goal of $500 to support the foundation's efforts to improve the quality of life for all people affected by lupus.
Thank you for your support!! I truly appreciate anything you can donate to support my efforts. Race day is going to be a big day for me. Thank you for being part of it and for helping me cross the finish line to help end lupus.
