I was diagnosed with Lupus on June 18, 2014. Lupus is an autoimmune disease where the immune system flares up, becomes overactive and starts attacking healthy cells in the body. Lupus affects every person differently- during my flare up I lost my gallbladder, it caused my hypothyroidism, Raynaud's Syndrome, and I lost kidney function, along with other symptoms like chronic pain (arthritis throughout my body), chronic exhaustion, edema, seizure, bruising and rashes. After almost two years of fighting for my kidney function I got into remission.
This disease completely changed my life while giving me an appreciation for my health and independence. Three years after my diagnosis I completed my first ever half marathon running on Team Make Your Mark in Seattle! I cannot describe the physical and emotional effort it took to finish that race. I will be running the Seattle Rock n Roll half marathon for the third year in a row and raising funds to help fight this disease for myself, for my cousin, in memory of my Grandmother who lost her fight against lupus... and for everyone else suffering this disease. Any donation, big or small, is appreciated!
Join me and support the mission of the Lupus Foundation of America! My goal is to raise critical funds for the estimated 1.5 million people living with lupus in the United States. Your donation will help me reach my personal fundraising goal and support the Foundation's efforts to improve the quality of life for all people affected by lupus!
