Congressional Action Supports Unprecedented Lupus Research Program
Yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives Appropriations Committee passed a bill that includes funding for a lupus specific research program in the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program at the Department of Defense. The vote is the culmination of more than a decade of Lupus Foundation of America-led efforts which gained momentum after the formation of the Congressional Lupus Caucus, which was established by the Foundation in 2012.

Reducing Steroids Associated with Lower Healthcare Costs in Lupus Treatment
A new study suggests that cost savings may be another important reason for developing therapies that reduce the need for steroids for lupus treatment. Published in Arthritis Care & Research, this is the first large-scale study to document a relationship between the duration of steroid use and the cost and use of health care resources among adults with lupus.

New Study: Predicting Risk of Miscarriage During First Trimester
A new study suggests that testing positive for lupus anticoagulant antibodies in the first trimester of pregnancy is the strongest predictor of pregnancy loss in women with lupus, compared with other pregnancy risk factors associated with lupus.
